Review: Skinfood Gold Caviar Lifting Eye Serum (wrinkle care)

The winter weather and indoor heating are making my under eyes really dry. I've been trying eye cream samples in succession, with the most recent being IOPE V-Fit Lift Eye Cream for the fine lines under my eyes, but it wasn't moisturizing enough. So my eyes have just been getting progressively drier and drier. Even when I went back to using Skinfood Gold Caviar Collagen Eye Cream as an attempt to save my under eyes, which worked for me before in the summer, did barely nothing this time around during the winter! So I decided to give this one a try since I bought it a few months ago anyways.

Description (from eng.theskinfood.com):
  • A total care eye serum that moisturizes and applies nutrients to the skin surrounding the eyes to make it full of resilience with the ingredients of caviar and gold
  • Take an appropriate amount and spread into the palm of your hands after the application of toner to apply in the direction of the skin's texture. Press slowly for absorption.
My impression:

My under eyes are very dry and I've got quite a bit of fine lines. I've been trying out anti-wrinkle creams for the past 3-4 months now, starting with Skinfood Royal Honey Eye Cream which did nothing, Laniege Water Bank Eye Gel which did nothing and cost a lot, Skinfood Gold Caviar Collagen Eye Cream which has given me the best results back in summer but didn't do much this time around when I tried to use it again during winter, Skinfood Platinum Grape Cell Eye Cream which was second best, Skinfood Black Raspberry Eye Cream which had a smell that put me off, and IOPE V-Fit Lift Eye Cream which I had high hopes for but wasn't moisturizing enough.

I've been using this day and night with light application in the day and more during the night. I use this eye cream first before using Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream for my dark circles. One sample lasts pretty long since you're only applying a little bit every time. Skinfood eye samples are probably the best value for your buck samples for Skinfood.

This eye cream has a very sticky, mochi-like texture. It's a bit harder to spread around the eyes relatively the your usual eye cream, and when you pat the cream down, the skin sticks to your fingers for a bit. Whether that, in the long-term, will lead to looser skin under your eyes was one of the concerns that I thought about when using this eye cream.

One problem with this cream was that I woke up with a lot of dried up muck stuck in between my eyelashes. Yuck! I had to rub my eyes everyday in the morning to get rid of them. Not good especially since I'm trying to prevent wrinkles and saggy eye bags! At first I thought it was because I had some sort of pink eye infection but once I started using Etude House Collagen Moistfull Firming Eye Cream it disappeared, so I guess it's this eye cream's problem and not mine.

It is quite moisturizing, I would say more moisturizing than Skinfood Gold Caviar Collagen Eye Cream. It does go in between my fine lines to make it look less visible and I think the moisture helps the fine lines as well. However, once again, I don't think it was enough. Compared to what I see after I use The Face Shop Raspberry Lines & Lift Collagen Eye Patch, where I can see a visible reduction in my fine lines (as well as puffiness), I know I need something better. So far it seems like Skinfood eye creams are not rich/moisturizing enough. Maybe it's time I try some other brands instead of sticking with Skinfood...

The search continues :(

Summary:

Sticky texture, skin under eye sticks to your fingers as you pat the eye cream--will that lead to loose under eye skin in the long term?
Dry muck stuck around my eyelashes..had to rub everyday to get them off
Helped moisturize but not enough for the winter months
Minimize the appearance of fine lines but once again not enough
$23 for 45g on eBay

Grade: 2.5/5 because I got dried up muck stuck between my eyelashes and I had to rub to get them off! moisturized and minimized fine lines but not enough especially during winter months

Value: 3/5 because it's relatively inexpensive and 45g will give you a long supply of dried up muck!

Repurchase? Nope

  1. have you tried any product with emu oil? it's quite moisturizing and also is a multitasking product. I have a skin cream and I use it not only around my eyes, but also for my lips and hair. I even used it as a healing cream for a difficult piercing. I think there are more specialized products but I found that one works quite well for everything. I bought it via the feelunique website. but I should warn you, the smell may be a little unpleasant. and it's from animal origin, so if you are vegetarian it's not a product for you.

here I wrote a short review, it's in spanish but perhaps you can google-translate it:

  2. aww that's really disaapointing. I'm still deciding on what eye cream to use next. I've been using the Lush Enchanted Eye Cream for years, but I want to try something new.

    1. I'm still deciding too! I've been trying all these eye cream samples but I haven't really had one that I'm happy to settle with :(
