Review: Etude House Baking Powder Cleansing Foam Moist

I got this as a complimentary sample on one of my bigger Skinfood purchases. I've been on a staple routine of using Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam in the morning and then Skinfood Black Sugar Scrub Foam at night. I've been satisfied with those two products and have already ordered another one of both. But it never hurts to try new products and I always like to believe that there's something better out there.

Description (taken from koreadepart.com):
  • Formulated with Baking Powder to penetrate and cleanse deep within pores to remove makeup and residues
  • Bubble foam texture supplies rich, smooth lather for moist sensation.
  • Apply right amount on dry hands and spread on face. Wet hand to create bubbles, wash face and rinse off with luke warm water.
My impression:

This is very similar to the Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam  both in its texture and effects. This cleanser is a bit thicker in consistency, so it took a little bit more time and work to get it to soften and spread out onto my face. But because it's thicker in consistency, I need to use less of it than the Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam.

As for the effect, it's not bad at all. It lives up to its claims of creating a "moist sensation." My face feels like I just put water on my face instead of using a cleanser. I don't feel like I got moisture stripped off my face and need to put my toner on asap, which I did before with some cleansers.

I know this is not a pore cleanser, but since its baking powder ability is supposed to cleanse deep within pores, I expected to see my pores appear small, or at least not enlarged due to impurities still inside the pores. And I think this cleanser does its job. My pores looked small. The rest of my face was also calm, there was no extra redness, my two pimples that I got thanks to my hormonal cycle were not irritated by this cleanser either.

The effect of cleaning the pores is similar to Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam. In terms of leaving my face moisturized, I think it's similar. It may be a bit better than Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam, but I didn't notice that much difference between the two.

And, at the end, I got that "clean" feeling. I didn't feel like the cleanser left a layer of stuff or any residue on my face. Sometimes I feel that with cleansers and I have to keep scrubbing and scrubbing until it all comes off. This one, I rinse gently a few times and everything comes off, leaving my face feeling "squeaky" clean but not stripped of moisture. This was similar to the same "clean" feeling that I got with Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam.

All in all, I quite like this cleanser! It left my skin clean, pores were small and looked clean, and my skin didn't feel dry even after a few minutes before I put my toner on.

I think this cleanser is advertised to those with dry skin. I have oily/combination skin. The only thing that's dry is my forehead. But I don't think this cleanser leaves an oily residue or anything else that may deter people with non-dry skin to use this cleanser. I certainly had no problems with it.

Summary:

Cleans pores well, minimizing their appearance
Leaves my face feeling clean and moisturized
Thicker consistency may take a bit longer to spread on skin, but in return you need to use less each time
$12 for 150ml on eBay

Grade: 5/5 because it's a cleanser that cleans very well (including the pores) and it left my face quite smooth and moisturized

Value: 5/5 because it's around the same price as Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam but probably lasts longer because you need to use less!

Repurchase? I still have another tube of my Skinfood cleanser but yes I think I will buy this after I'm done.

    1. Hello~ thanks for your comment!
I just get them all from eBay, with the exception of Missha which I get from their official site. Some samples are ones that I actually bought myself, while some samples are complimentary from eBay sellers when I buy products from them :)

  2. Hello!

I have the same skin type as you, and I'm debating on whether or not I should get either the Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam or this baking powder one...
Which do you prefer more? ><

Also, thanks for all the great reviews!!

    1. No problem, thanks for coming to check them out!
To be honest I found them very, very similar. Sometimes I find the baking powder one leaves my face drier.. but the difference is so minuscule for me I don't know if I'm just being paranoid.
So if I were you..I'd go with the cheaper option, which is this one! Or I'd buy samples of both so you can see for yourself which one works best for you :)

    2. I see... thank you!
Another quick question: With the Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam, was it ok with pimples? I don't have severe acne, I only breakout with a few pimples when it's *that* time of the month, lol.

    3. I also used to breakout only when it's the time of the month! I haven't broke out for the past 2 months. I was actually pimple-free for the past 2 months but now I have two pimples near my lip area that I think may be because of my lip balm so I threw it away -_-

The Skinfood egg white pore foam works for my pimples, but I'm not sure if I can attribute it all to the cleanser since I also use a pore toner and pore primer to deal with that problem. But when I used to use Shiseido white lucent cleanser, my toner cotton pad would be slightly brown after wiping my face. But now the cotton pad isn't brown at all after using Skinfood egg white pore foam. Hope that helps!

    4. *this is seobyo, but for some weird reason it won't let me post with my LJ acc '-'
      Wow...2 months?? That's amazing!! I'm jealous!! ;-;
You know, I think I'll try the Skinfood cleanser first (even though the Etude one is cheaper...) 'cause I keep leaning towards it. ><
I'm also planning to get the Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner as well, since I've heard so many good things about it.
Thanks for all the help! :3 I'm still a skincare newbie, and I'm trying to see which products might be worth getting and will work on my skin.

    5. Haha I personally don't think you can go wrong with either one :) I'm still using Skinfood too because it hasn't showed any signs of running out yet haha.
Yes the Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner has worked wonders for my skin, you should definitely try it out.
No worries, I only started totally revamping my skincare routine last year, so we're both beginners and both learning!^^

    6. Do you think that both cleansers are gentle enough for daily use in the mornings (w/o makeup)? Because I don't really put on makeup much...only like once a week for church and for special occasions.
Sorry for all the questions~ it's so hard to get answers, and this site is like a jackpot for me~

    7. Hello there~
Yes, it's gentle enough. I have used both cleansers daily in the morning without makeup. I actually don't think this would be good enough to cleanse WITH makeup on. But without makeup is perfectly fine for me and that's what I've been doing. Hope that helps! :)

    8. Thanks! :D
Yeah, I use a cleansing lotion first to remove makeup and then use cleanser to finish it off. :p
*btw this is the same person lol

  3. Great review! I currently have my eyes on the cleansing foam though, the one packaged in blue. I think it is targeted for oily/combination skinned people, but basically they're the same since it has pretty much the same concept. Good to know it worked well on you! xx

I'm a new follower by the way. Hope you can follow me back too! :)

  4. Would you still use the Egg White Cleansing Foam or this?

    1. Personally they're both so similar I would use either. I still have a tube left of the Egg White Cleansing Foam so I'll be using that. But maybe next time I might just buy the Baking Powder Cleansing Foam to alternate things around. Hope that helps!
