Review: Shiseido Tsubaki Shining Hair Treatment with Tsubaki Oil EX

I don't know if it's the indoor heating, the weather, the new hairstylist, the whatever, but my hair has been getting dryer and more frizzy since October. I've tried the Asience Inner Rich Hair Treatment before which came in a package along with the Asience shampoo and conditioner. I also bought a Shiseido Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner package which came with this hair treatment.

Description (taken from the bottle itself):

  • A treatment especially for those who are worried about hair damage, now combined with a long-lasting treatment ingredient
  • This treatment that focuses on repairing hair tips that are damaged easily, leaving you with glamorous hair
  • After shampoo, dry hair lightly and dispensed the appropriate amount to all your hair. Rinse after you have mixed it thoroughly and evenly (even if you rinse it immediately after, it will be sufficient).
My impression:

Excuse my bad translation skills..my Japanese isn't the best as you can see. But all the instructions I searched had said leave it on for 20 minutes. It says nothing about 20 minutes on this tube! It says that even if you rinse your hair right after putting it on, it will be sufficiently effective. Anybody can see that there's no "20" in the instructions no matter what language you speak.

Results-wise..I'm sad to say it didn't do much. I think it's slightly better (hair behaves slightly better, slightly less frizz, slightly less dry) than the Tsubaki conditioner, but the results of that lasts until you wash your hair again..which for me is the next day. In terms of how much better it was when I use this instead of the conditioner, I actually think Asience Inner Rich Hair Treatment showed a bigger difference (though on an absolute scale it wasn't much either).

Fortunately I bought the regular size of Skinfood Citron Scalp Care Shampoo after trying samples and it's been working quite well. My hair is not silky smooth but it is less dry than when I used Tsubaki shampoo and conditioner and more importantly, there is less frizz so it behaves! I actually haven't been using conditioner (because I haven't bought it yet) and have just been using the Etude House Silk Scarf Moist Hair Mist and Etude House Silk Scarf Repair Hair Essence after I towel dry my hair.

If anyone has recommendations for a good hair treatment, let me know!

Summary:

Slightly better than conditioner
Results lasts only until you wash your hair again
$17 for 200g on eBay

Quality: 2.5/5 because it didn't really do anything

Value: 1/5 because it's way too expensive for something that doesn't work for me -_-

Repurchase? Nope

    1. Yes, if you only read the kanji as Chinese, then 十分 you may think that it says 10 minutes. But in Japanese 十分 can mean 10 minutes or sufficient. In this case, すぐにすすいでも十分の効果があります means that "even if you rinse right after there will be sufficient efficacy"
