I bought this along with my Skinfood Black Sugar Scrub Foam (one of my two favorite products from Skinfood currently) when I was in Korea (as you can see with the price tag on top). I read some reviews and it said this mask brightens the skin and contains some small beads for exfoliation so I thought, why not?
- A wash-off mask containing rice extract that moisturizes skin and brightens tone. With its texture of ground rice, it leaves skin bright, soft and lustrous.
- After washing, apply desired amount onto face, focusing on nose area while avoiding eye and mouth areas. Wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then wash off with warm water.
My impression:
I've used this a few times now and I must say the results were...insignificant. It has small beads for exfoliation, but my skin didn't feel that much smoother than when using Skinfood Black Sugar Scrub Foam. That is, something I take maximum 2 minutes to do leads to the same smooth result as something that takes 10-15 minutes after the cleansing step.
As for brightness, there may have been some, perhaps partly due to the exfoliation sloughing off my dead skin cells, but what caught my attention was that I noticed my face suddenly lost its radiance. It looked very dull.
Then as I started touching my face to see its texture, I realized that it was smooth but also quite dry. My face is more moisturized when I'm using Skinfood Black Sugar Scrub Foam! Perhaps that's why my face looked so dull. I definitely didn't feel that it moisturized my skin. More like it took the moisture away because I recall my skin being less dry right before I used this mask!
I still have a whole jar of this mask to use, and I don't want to waste it, so I guess I will use it when I feel that I need some extra exfoliation. Or when I don't have enough time to do a mask (so I don't want to waste my "good" masks) but have some time in my hands to do something.
Summary:
Skin was smooth but not any different from using Skinfood Black Sugar Scrub Foam
May brighten a bit but what sticks out is dry and dull skin
$10 for 100g on eBay
Grade: 2.5/5 because it's a mask that produces less results than a scrub foam and leads to dull, dry skin
Value: 3.5/5 because it's cheap for 100g and it may exfoliate for those who do not use a scrub cleanser
Repurchase? No, this mask doesn't do anything for me
Yeah...agree..
ReplyDeleteHello, I've just found your blog and I really like it. Your reviews are really well done and I like reading them.
ReplyDeleteI also have similar experiences with a lot of the products you've used, so I was kind of sad to read that SkinFood's Rice Mask didn't do any good to you, because I simply love this mask. It really works well for my skin, it makes it clean and smooth and also brightens any red spots I have. The thing is that I'm not actually using it the way SkinFood says I should. I apply the mask on clean and dry skin and massage it gently. When I see that it got absorbed I wet my hand and massage it some more and then I wash it off. I think it works a lot better that way :)
Good to know we share similar experiences! Put in on dry skin and then massage it..I've actually done that before with another Origins exfoliator. Sounds like a good idea. Will definitely give it a try. Thanks for your tip!
DeleteI used to try this item and I feel nothing that it can peel off my dead skin. Love your review always! Im Pang just say hello! I lived in Bangkok, Thailand
ReplyDeleteI guess that makes two of us! :) Yeah it wasn't very effective for me either when I first tried it.
Deletehi, I've been using this mask as well. And I agree with you, it brighten up my skin. Thanks to those exfoliator formula :D
ReplyDeleteI wrote a review about another version of skinfood wash off mask, the black sugar wash off mask. Give my post a visit if you have some time ^^ http://roseforvalentine.blogspot.com/2014/07/skin-food-black-sugar-mask-wash-off.html
